Simulation of Atmospheric Boundary Layer for Air Inlet Testing in Crossflow

Turbulence grids replicating the velocity profile (including high-frequency part of turbulence spectrum) atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) have been designed, manufactured, and tested in ONERA wind tunnels. These ABL are intended to improve experimental simulation flow entering air inlets aircraft engines while operating a crosswind. It was found that properly reproduced features relevant this application. A test with an inlet has confirmed can noticeable effect on range therefore significant interest engine manufacturers.
